Welcome To Skadoit! Protecting America's Data

How do I know if my backups are working?

You have the option of receiving an email notification that will be sent to you automatically after every successful backup. You can turn this option on or off at any time. In addition, the Skadoit! software keeps a log of every file that was backed up. You can view or search this log at any time.

How does the Skadoit! online backup service work?

You will download and install the Skadoit! software onto your computer. Once the Skadoit! software is installed, it will always remain in your system background. You will create backup sets that contain information on the files or folders that you want to backup and the days and times that you want to back them up. Backups will then occur automatically. When a backup begins, the Skadoit! software will search all of the folders and files that are contained in your backup set. All new files and all files that have changed since the last backup, will be compressed, encrypted and then sent to the Skadoit! servers.

How long will online backup services or remote backup take?

High-speed Internet connections will obviously speed up the time it takes to back up your files and folders. Dial-up Internet users could face longer times but if they schedule effectively they can save time.

Initial backups can take from hours to days depending on the volume and size of the data that is required to back up. That's why many people opt to conduct this during off-peak hours or even weekends. Time taken for subsequent and routine backups will be much shorter once the first backup is complete as only the changes or new documents will need to be copied and stored.

How secure is my data?

Your data will be completely secure. It is encrypted before it leaves your computer with an Encryption Key that only you have. The data is then encrypted again for its transit over the Internet. Your files are then stored, in encrypted form, on multiple servers in high security facilities. Because of the encryption, even Skadoit! personnel cannot access your data.

What are the advantages of online backup?

While backing up your data to tapes, CDs, DVDs, ZIP disks or other removable storage devices is certainly better than not backing up at all, these methods are inferior to online backup. First, there is the inconvenience of having to store these types of storage devices offsite. Otherwise, your backups may be destroyed along with your computer(s) in the event of a fire, flood or theft. Second, if you backup only to removable storage devices, you run the risk of losing your data because tapes, hard drives, even CDs and DVDs will eventually fail. Third, recovering files can be a tedious and difficult process.

Online backup eliminates the hassles and worries of traditional onsite backup. Online backup is easy to use, automatic, secure, scalable and affordable. Moreover, online backup requires nothing more than a computer and an Internet connection.

What is the difference between the Standard and the Premium version?

The Standard version is used by the majority of users, however, the Premium version includes many additional capabilities. Please view the following page for a detailed comparison between the two versions - Version Comparison

What kind of encryption is used?

Skadoit! encrypts each file using 128-bit AES encryption technology. This encryption technology is used by the U.S. government and military. Each file is encrypted before it leaves your system and then remains encrypted on the Skadoit! servers, providing complete privacy for your data. There is no way for even Skadoit! personnel to access your files, because only you have your unique Encryption Key.

In addition, the Skadoit! software communicates with the Skadoit! severs using SSL (Secure Socket Layers) technology. This is the same encryption technology used by Internet browsers when a user enters a secured site. As a result, your data is encrypted twice. It is encrypted at all times using the 128-bit AES encryption, and it is encrypted again while itâ€Ã¢â€žÂ¢s being sent over the Internet.

Where is my data stored?

Your data is stored on state-of-the-art file servers in two secure data centers. Each facility has advanced security features such as biometric controlled access, 24/7 monitoring, backup generators and redundant connections to the Internet.
